Use cases

What are use cases?

Use cases are an essential component of the BIM rules and regulations. They comprehensively describe the subject areas that are to be implemented in the respective project in order to achieve the defined objectives.

The number of use cases can vary depending on the client's requirements or the type of project. Some use cases can also only be called up in a specific project phase, while others are carried out in all project phases.

Established use cases include

  • Inventory recording and inventory modelling
  • Quality management during planning (model coordination)
  • Model-based quantity and mass determination
  • Model-based simulation of construction processes
  • Final documentation for operation

When creating use cases in the regulations, we pay particular attention to ensuring that they fully meet the client's expectations (objectives) and are also technically feasible for those involved in the project. In order to achieve this, joint colloquia are held with all project participants at the start of a project to ensure that the content of a use case can be implemented by the planners' software landscape.

Use cases have a strong connection to the technical guidelines of the Level of Information (LOI) and Level of Geometry (LOG), as the information content of model elements (LOI characteristics) and their geometry (LOG) is queried during implementation.
