Dimensions according to ÖNORM A 6241-2

ÖNORM A 6241-2 has introduced further dimensions for analysing and using building data, in addition to those already known:

  • 2D = plans
  • 3D = models

have been defined:

  • 4D = time/scheduling: This dimension is currently mainly used for simulations (e.g. construction sequences), but a link to schedules is also possible.
  • 5D = Costs: This is mainly used for model-based quantity and mass determination for cost calculation and the creation of specifications.
  • 6D = Sustainability: information on the sustainability of a building over its life cycle is analysed here.

A further dimension can also be added:

  • 7D = BIM and facility management: represents the linking of BIM information with operational and strategic facility management.

The dimensions are a good aid for categorising and dealing with the various topics, e.g. in the use cases.
