LOI

What does LOI mean?

The information requirements, which include the level of detail LOI - Level of Information, can be found under the technical guidelines of a BIM set of rules. The level of detail, i.e. the amount of information to be stored, depends on the project phase and increases constantly over the course of the project.

The LOI is a detailed documentation that specifies exactly when certain features are required for all element classes (e.g. walls, ceilings, fire extinguishers, medical equipment).

The LOI therefore describes very specifically how these properties are named, in which PropertySet (group of characteristics) they are to be located, which value type (e.g. true or false, text, thermal transmittance, etc.) they take on and who (e.g. planners, building contractor) is responsible for the characteristic.

The aim is not to store alphanumeric information as an end in itself, but to make this information available to other project participants for their work in a targeted manner.

At the time of the final documentation for operation (use case of AsBuilt), all information necessary for operational management is therefore included, as well as all planning features that can be continued in the event of a conversion or refurbishment.
