BIM in existing buildings

BIM in existing buildings

BIM in existing buildings has many different forms. The aim is usually to capture the current state of the building in the form of a BIM model.
This represents an optimal planning basis for construction in existing buildings.

The paths to this BIM as-built model are often different due to the very different requirements. In most cases, the interior of buildings is recorded using laser scanning (e.g. terrestrial laser scanning). The building envelope or surroundings are often recorded using drone flights and photogrammetry.

It is very important to define the requirements in advance, such as

  • What should be recorded?
  • How should it be recorded?
  • What accuracy should be achieved?
  • What LOI and LOG is required?

to define.

In general, the main activities required to create a BIM as-built model are recording, post-modelling and quality assurance.
