BIM is the new system in the construction industry that is increasingly finding its way into new buildings. As additional requirements and demands apply to historical buildings, the introduction of BIM in this area is to be analysed. The objectives are to create a guideline for the introduction of BIM specifically for historic buildings and a systematic data model for mapping all relevant information on historic buildings.

BIM makes it possible to combine all existing documents such as plans (and also the plans of the specialist planners) and legacy datasets (such as image plans, building surveys and historical building surveys) in one data model. This results in a central access point to information about the respective historic building. Depending on the purpose, corresponding analyses, evaluations, plans and simulations can be read out and further processed.
