Waldviertel and greater Vienna area, Austria

Role:
BIM - Management
Client:
ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG
Status:
in planning
Project period:
since 2022

The Franz-Josefs-Bahn is of regional importance as it connects the Waldviertel to Vienna and the central region of Lower Austria. The infrastructure project is divided into two main areas: the sectional double-track expansion of the Franz-Josefs-Bahn and the direct connection to Horn.

The sectional double-track expansion will serve to expand services along the route and, once the modernisation has been completed, will enable a continuous hourly and half-hourly service between Vienna and Gmünd at peak times.

The direct connection to Horn is intended to ensure a transfer-free connection between Vienna and the district capital Horn. This should open up new potential in rail transport. Electrification and a new route in some sections should reduce the journey time between Horn and Vienna to around 70 minutes.

The project aims to modernise and improve the rail connection. The double-track expansion in sections and the direct connection to Horn will create optimal conditions for a better timetable in the region. The BIM method is intended to ensure efficient planning and realisation of the project in order to achieve the project objectives. This has a positive impact on regional development and ensures better connections to the greater Vienna area.
